The Name "Buffalo Soldiers"

Native American tribes gave these soldiers the name "Buffalo Soldiers" out of respect for their fierce fighting spirit and the texture of their hair, which resembled the buffalo's mane. The soldiers wore this name with pride, and the buffalo became a symbol of their regiments.
