The Battle of Kamdesh, fought during the Afghanistan War, involved both Army aviators and ground troops. Eight aviators were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for their actions in defending the base. Two soldiers, Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha and Staff Sergeant Ty Carter, were awarded the Medal of Honor for their bravery during the battle. The investigation into the battle also resulted in disciplinary actions for four officers in the chain of command for their failure to adequately support the base,
