The 2nd Infantry Regiment has different histories depending on the country. The most prominent examples are the American 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiment (WWII), a unit composed of Filipino Americans active in the Pacific Theater, and the Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, whose origins trace back to the 2nd Military Area formed in the 1970s. There was also the American 2nd Infantry Regiment USCT, a unit of formerly enslaved people during the Civil War.
