31st Engineer Battalion. Camp McCoy. Wisconsin Trained. Combat Ready.

Camp McCoy — located in Monroe County, Wisconsin — is one of the U.S. Army’s premier training installations in the Midwest, known for its demanding terrain and year-round training conditions that push soldiers to their limits. For the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion, Camp McCoy represented the training ground where combat engineering skills were honed, maintained, and validated — the kind of rigorous preparation that separates a combat-ready engineer battalion from one that merely goes through the motions.

This mug honors the 31st Engineer Battalion’s service and training at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin — a tribute to the engineers who put in the work far from the headlines, in the cold Wisconsin terrain, building the readiness that the mission demands.

About the Unit & Installation

The 31st Engineer Battalion was originally constituted as the 31st Engineer Company on 1 July 1940 and activated at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. It was reorganized and redesignated as the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion on 15 December 1941. Camp McCoy, located in Monroe County, Wisconsin, has served as a major Army training installation since World War I, providing training facilities for Active, Reserve, and National Guard units across the Midwest. Its varied terrain and challenging climate make it a premier location for combat training, including the engineering skills — breaching, bridging, demolitions, and route clearance — that define the combat engineer mission.
