USJFCOM - Joint Warfare Excellence
United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) was a Unified Combatant Command of the United States Department of Defense. USJFCOM was a functional command that provided specific services to the military. The last commander was Army Gen. Ray Odierno. As directed by the President to identify opportunities to cut costs and rebalance priorities, Defense Secretary Robert Gates recommended that USJFCOM be disestablished and its essential functions reassigned to other unified combatant commands. Formal disestablishment occurred on 4 August 2011.
USJFCOM was responsible for joint concept development and experimentation, joint training, joint force provider, and joint integrator. The command worked to transform the U.S. military by developing joint operational concepts, conducting joint training and exercises, and ensuring that forces from all services could operate seamlessly together in joint operations.
Transformation and Joint Operations
Personnel who served with USJFCOM came from all branches of the military—Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps—working together to advance joint warfare capabilities. They developed innovative concepts for joint operations, conducted major joint exercises, and worked to ensure that U.S. forces could operate effectively as a joint team.
