USS Asheville (PG-84) — First of Her Class. Finest of Her Kind.
She wasn’t just a patrol gunboat — she was the one they named the class after. The USS Asheville (PG-84) was the lead ship of the Asheville-class, a series of fast, heavily armed patrol gunboats that redefined close-quarters naval combat during the Cold War era. Small in size, massive in capability, and crewed by sailors who understood that speed and precision were their greatest weapons. This Classic tee is a tribute to the ship that started it all and the crew that made her legendary.

The Ship That Started It All
Commissioned in 1966, USS Asheville (PG-84) was the first of 17 Asheville-class patrol gunboats built for the United States Navy. Displacing just 225 tons but capable of speeds exceeding 40 knots, these ships were among the fastest combat vessels in the fleet. Armed with a 3-inch gun, a 40mm cannon, and later Harpoon missiles, they packed a punch far beyond their size. USS Asheville and her sisters served in Vietnam, the Mediterranean, and across the Pacific — proving that in naval warfare, speed and firepower matter more than tonnage.
