Keeping the Seabees Rolling - Can Do!
Navy Construction Mechanics are the heavy equipment maintenance specialists of the Naval Construction Force, better known as the Seabees. They perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of automotive equipment, materials handling equipment, and construction equipment—from bulldozers and graders to cranes and forklifts, from dump trucks and fuel trucks to generators and compressors. Without CM personnel keeping equipment operational, Seabee construction missions would grind to a halt.
Construction Mechanics diagnose mechanical problems, perform preventive maintenance, rebuild engines and transmissions, repair hydraulic systems, troubleshoot electrical issues, and ensure that every piece of equipment is mission-ready. They work on diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, and complex mechanical assemblies. Their expertise keeps construction equipment running in the harshest environments on earth.
We Build, We Fight
What makes Navy Construction Mechanics unique is their dual role as both skilled mechanics and combat-ready sailors. Seabees are trained to fight as well as build, and throughout history CM personnel have defended their equipment and construction sites while continuing their maintenance work. From the island-hopping campaigns of World War II to modern operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, Construction Mechanics have demonstrated courage under fire while keeping equipment operational.
CM personnel deploy to some of the most challenging environments on earth—from combat zones to disaster areas, from the Arctic to the tropics. They maintain equipment in extreme heat and cold, often working with limited parts and tools in austere conditions. They perform field repairs on damaged equipment, conduct preventive maintenance to prevent breakdowns, and ensure that construction equipment is ready when the mission demands it.
Construction Mechanics must master diesel and gasoline engine repair, hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, welding, and heavy equipment maintenance procedures. They supervise maintenance teams, train junior personnel, maintain detailed maintenance records, and ensure that all equipment meets Navy safety and operational standards. At the master chief petty officer level, Construction Mechanics merge with Equipment Operators to become Master Chief Equipmentmen (EQCM), combining operational and maintenance expertise.
Whether you are a Navy Construction Mechanic, want to honor a Seabee CM, or appreciate the mechanical expertise that keeps naval construction equipment running, this t-shirt represents skill, dedication, and the "Can Do" spirit that defines the Seabees.
Ideal for: Navy Construction Mechanics and Seabee veterans, Naval Construction Force supporters, heavy equipment mechanics, veterans' families, and everyday wear.
Construction Mechanic. Seabees. We Build, We Fight. Can Do!
