Unit History

  • The 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment is the modern armored reconnaissance squadron of the U.S. Army's 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. Its history is linked to the original 9th Cavalry Regiment, one of the segregated African-American regiments known as the "Buffalo Soldiers," which was organized in 1866. The modern squadron, formally activated in 2005, operates as the reconnaissance arm for its brigade and has deployed to locations including Iraq and Germany.
