The 502nd Infantry Regiment, originally known as the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), was established shortly after the United States entered World War II. It was activated on July 1, 1941, at Fort Benning, Georgia, and became part of the 101st Airborne Division, famously known as "The Screaming Eagles." The regiment played a significant role in several key operations during the war, including the D-Day landings in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge
