The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, nicknamed the "Six Triple Eight", was a predominantly African American, all-female battalion of the Women's Army Corps during World War II. They were the only all-black, all-female unit to serve overseas during the war. Their primary mission was to clear the backlog of mail in the European Theater of Operations, ensuring soldiers received letters and packages from home.
