The 25th Infantry Regiment, known as "Buffalo Soldiers," was stationed at various Texas posts, including Fort Stockton, in the late 19th century to patrol the border, build infrastructure, and engage in conflicts. Their history includes extensive service on the western frontier, with the regiment being deployed to the Texas and New Mexico border from 1870–1880. During this period, soldiers were tasked with securing the border, building roads and telegraph lines, and performing reconnaissance, sometimes involving operations against Native American bands.
