HISTORY

    • Period of Service: The 2-11 Arty arrived in Vietnam in December 1966 and in 1968 was attached to the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile).
    • Operation Apache Snow: The Battle of Hamburger Hill, known officially as the fight for Dong Ap Bia Mountain (Hill 937), occurred from May 10 to May 20, 1969, as part of Operation Apache Snow. This operation aimed to disrupt North Vietnamese Army (PAVN) infiltration routes and base areas in the A Shau Valley near the Laotian border.
    • Artillery Support: The 2-11 Arty provided critical fire support to the infantry units of the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, who conducted repeated frontal assaults against heavily fortified PAVN bunkers on the mountain. Artillery barrages and aerial rocket artillery were vital in attempting to break the entrenched enemy positions.
