Early history of the 91st Evacuation Hospital can be traced to the 6th Surgical Hospital, which was largely involved in actions in France during WW1. In preparation for WW2, the 6th Surgical Hospital was reactivated on 1 August 1940, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The unit was scheduled to complete MTP training by 18 January 1941.
