The 284th Field Artillery Battalion answered the call on June 25, 1943 — activated as a separate battalion under the 204th Field Artillery Group, forged by seasoned NCOs returned from overseas to train the next generation of artillerymen. Their 105mm gun crews became a cornerstone of American firepower across the European Theater.
