The 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry, has a rich history as part of the famed "Buffalo Soldiers" of the U.S. Army. It served with distinction in the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, and World War II. The squadron, known for its air cavalry component, notably participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama and saw action in the Vietnam War.
