The 83rd Infantry Division is nicknamed the "Thunderbolt" Division and has served in both World War I and World War II, as well as being currently active. In WWI, it was primarily a depot division that supplied replacements, though the 332nd Regiment saw action in Italy. During WWII, the division landed in Normandy after D-Day, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, advanced across France and Germany, and crossed the Rhine and Elbe rivers.
