The 37th Infantry Division ("Buckeye Division") was a storied Ohio National Guard unit that saw extensive combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II, fighting in the Northern Solomons and Luzon Campaign, including the brutal urban warfare in Manila. Its lineage continues today through the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which proudly bears the division's "Buckeye" nickname and a shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) of a red circle with a white border. The Brigade Combat Team currently maintains 3,500 Soldiers in the Ohio and Michigan Army National Guard and has deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.
