The Bell OH-58 Kiowa, first delivered to the U.S. Army in 1968, served as a versatile light observation and armed reconnaissance helicopter for over 50 years. Originally a light observation helicopter for the Vietnam War, the Kiowa was developed into the OH-58D "Kiowa Warrior," featuring an all-glass cockpit, a Wire Strike Protection System (WSPS), and the ability to carry missiles and heavy machine guns. It saw extensive service in conflicts such as the Gulf War, Panama, and Afghanistan before the U.S. Army retired the fleet in 2014-2017, being replaced by rotorcraft like the AH-64 Apache and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
