The 11th Armored Division "Thunderbolt" was a U.S. Army unit formed in 1942 that played a crucial role in World War II, particularly during the Battle of the Bulge and the subsequent push into Germany and Austria. Its nickname, "Thunderbolt," was earned during a forced march in December 1944 to reinforce Allied forces fighting the German offensive in the Ardennes Forest.
