From Tropic Lightning to Ivy. The Central Highlands Fight Continued.
The 35th Infantry began its Vietnam rotation in August 1965 under the 25th Infantry Division, deploying to the Central Highlands at Pleiku as part of the 3rd Brigade. Heavily engaged from January 1966, the battalions fought across I Corps and II Corps until August 1967, when operational control transferred to the 4th Infantry Division — which had deployed to the Central Highlands in late 1966. Under the Ivy Division SSI, the 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry continued the fight through 1972, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge in some of Vietnam's most demanding terrain.
