The 39th Battalion was active in Belgium, France, and along the Somme Valley. In 1918, the battalion was rushed to France to help stop the German Army's offensive on Amiens. The 39th Battalion also participated in the Australian-American operation to break through the Hindenburg Line. The battalion was disbanded in March 1919
