The 3rd Armored Division was created in 1941. On June 28, 1944, it landed on the Normandy beaches of France. This was just a few weeks after D-Day (June 6), the massive Allied invasion of western Europe. The "Spearhead" division advanced rapidly, becoming the first US division to enter Belgium.
