Unit History
Constituted as the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment on 12 November 1942 and activated on 23 February 1943 at Camp Mackall, North Carolina, the 187th was originally assigned to the 11th Airborne Division. Its men trained as both glider and parachute troops — among the most elite airborne forces of World War II. After staging at Camp Stoneman, California, the regiment departed from the San Francisco Port of Embarkation on 6 May 1944, heading into one of the most grueling campaigns of the Pacific Theater.
"Let Valor Not Fail" — the motto of the 187th Infantry Regiment, and the standard by which its members have always lived.
