The Black Panthers. 66th Infantry Division. WWII.
Activated in 1942 and forged in the crucible of the European Theater, the 66th Infantry Division earned its "Black Panther" designation through relentless training and iron discipline. On Christmas Eve 1944, the Division suffered one of the war's most devastating tragedies when the SS Leopoldville was torpedoed in the English Channel — yet the survivors pressed on, holding the line against German forces in the Lorient and Saint-Nazaire pockets until V-E Day.
