3rd United States Colored Heavy Artillery — Guardians of the Mississippi
Memphis, Tennessee. 1863–1866. While the Mississippi River carried the weight of a nation at war, the men of the 3rd United States Colored Heavy Artillery stood watch over it. Organized from formerly enslaved men who chose to fight for their own freedom and the freedom of others, this regiment manned the heavy guns that controlled one of the most strategically vital waterways in the Confederacy. Their service was resolute. Their sacrifice was real. This tee carries their story forward.
The all-over print artwork places you in the midst of an organized battery on the riverfront — flags and river traffic receding into an expansive sky, the foreground anchored by heavy artillery and the crew that tended it. Grounded, resolute, and reverent. A garment that honors a specific regiment and invites thoughtful attention.
