The 17th Armored Engineer Battalion was established on October 1, 1933, and became part of the 2nd Armored Division, also known as "Hell on Wheels." The battalion was re-designated multiple times, ultimately becoming the 17th Armored Engineer Battalion on January 8, 1942. It was active during key campaigns in North Africa and Western Europe during World War II.
