HISTORY

- Activation and Training: The 59th Infantry Counterfire Platoon was redesignated as the 59th IPSD on January 2, 1968, and officially activated at Fort Benning, Georgia, on April 4, 1968. The unit completed its combat readiness evaluation and graduated from Scout Dog Training School in May 1968.
- Deployment to Vietnam: The unit was then deployed to the Republic of Vietnam (RVN or VN). It primarily operated in the I Corps area, supporting various infantry units, including elements of the 101st Airborne Division and the American Division.
