The Blue Ranger Lozenge was approved for wear by all Ranger Battalions on 26 July 1943. In practice, it was primarily worn by the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions stateside and carried with them to the European Theater for the 6 June 1944 invasion of Normandy. However, later in the war, both battalions abandoned the diamond insignia in favor of unofficial scrolls, which were later adopted by the 75th Ranger Regiment on 26 July 1984
