The Station Nobody Talked About
In the highlands of Asmara, at an elevation of nearly 8,000 feet, the U.S. Army operated one of its most secretive Cold War installations: Kagnew Station. Officially a communications relay hub, it was in reality a critical signals intelligence post — intercepting transmissions across the Middle East, Africa, and the Soviet sphere.
Soldiers who served there came home to silence. No parades. No recognition. The mission was classified. The sacrifice was real.
