The 24th Infantry Regiment was an all-black Buffalo Soldier unit that was stationed at various posts, including those in Texas, and fought in multiple conflicts, including the Spanish-American War and World Wars I and II. The regiment's history is marked by both distinguished service and the challenges of racial prejudice, most notably the 1917 Houston Mutiny, which led to a mass court-martial but also prompted later military justice reforms. The regiment was eventually inactivated and its units were reflagged, but the 24th Infantry Division played a significant role in World War II and the Korean War.
