The 99th Antitank Battalion was redesignated as the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion on 15 December, 1941 (while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. The unit moved to Hunter Ligget Military Reservation in California for maneuvers and then back to Washington and Oregon for maneuvers.
