In the U.S. Army, Private E-2 (PV2) is the second lowest enlisted rank, following Private (E-1). Soldiers typically attain this rank after completing Basic Combat Training or with prior military experience. Their primary duty is to carry out orders and apply the training they received. PV2s are eligible for promotion to Private First Class (PFC) after specific time in service and time in grade requirements, or earlier with supervisor's recommendation.
