In 1951 it was reorganized and redesignated as the 518th Airborne Infantry, a process repeated the next year when it became the 518th Infantry and was designated as an element of the 108th Infantry Division. It was designated a Regiment consisting of three Battalions (1st, 2nd, 3rd), all elements of the 108th Division (Training), on 30 April 1959.
